People’s World Town Hall: ‘Labor’s Fight Back – Where Do We Go From Here?’

CHICAGO—This Thursday, May 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET, join the People’s World Town Hall on building working class power after the historic May Day protests and organizing against the billionaire class’s full-scale assault on labor rights and democracy.

Last week’s massive May Day demonstrations saw over 250,000 union members and their allies flood the streets in more than 1,100 actions nationwide—a show of force for labor that even outpaced traditional Labor Day parades.

From Chicago’s massive downtown march to rallies across the country, whether in big cities or small rural communities, the increased unity of labor, immigrant communities, and faith organizations demonstrated the working-class’ collective power to resist the Trump administration’s big business, anti-worker agenda.

The Trump administration’s billionaire-backed assault on workers has reached alarming new levels: the attack on public sector and federal worker unions, attacks on the National Labor Relations Board, the dismantling of the Education Department and teachers’ rights, privatization schemes targeting the U.S. Postal Service, and coordinated efforts to suppress voting rights, free speech, and the right to assemble.

Yet as Trump’s approval ratings crater to historic lows, the growing fighting spirit of the labor movement demonstrates our capacity as a class to fight back. The recent success of May Day 2025 raises crucial questions: How do we transform this growing energy into organizational power? What bold strategies can defend and expand workers’ rights against these attacks?

Join us as People’s World will bring together labor leaders and writers for our urgent Town Hall: “Labor’s Fight Back—Where Do We Go From Here?” on Thursday, May 8 at 8:00 PM EST / 7:00 PM CT.

The panel will feature:

– Hamilton Nolan of In These Times;

– Elise Bryant, president of Coalition of Labor Union Women; and

– Keith Richardson, president of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists Chicago and American Postal Workers Chicago.

The Town Hall will be moderated by C.J. Atkins, Managing Editor of People’s World.

The program will broadcast LIVE on the People’s World YouTube and Facebook.
